Yellow Tailed Cleaner Wrasse, Diproctacanthus xanthurus
Diproctacanthus xanthurus. The Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasse is a very rarely seen wrasse in the aquarium trade. Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasses have a mostly white body with strong black horizontal stripes and a yellow tail. Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasses reach a maximum adult size of around 4 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 55 gallons in size. Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasses are strong jumpers and will jump out of the tank if spooked. For this reason, it is important for them to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for them to jump through. Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasses are peaceful fish and shouldn't bother other fish in your tank. They will nip at some coral and also eat some inverts. For this reason they are not the best choice to be adding to reef tanks. They can make an amazing addition to fish only tanks though. Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasses are known to pick dead skin and parasites off of large fish on the reef. They are carnivores and will eat meaty foods as well. Foods like mysis and brine shrimp, nori and algae sheets and high quality meaty frozen foods can be fed to a Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasse to keep it happy and healthy. Yellowtail Cleaner Wrasses have small mouths, so it's important that their foods is small enough to fit into their mouths.
