Starfish, Fromia Monilis

The red necklace starfish or tile star is one of the most desirable marine reef aquarium starfish due to it's amazing colors and patterns and reef safe status. Necklace stars are orange to deep red with white to cream tile like markings.

Like most omnivorous or detrivore starfish it is generally accepted that they be housed in a fairly established aquarium with lots of live rock and sand as this will make it possible for them to find enough food. As omnivores necklace starfish perform a useful function in the aquarium feeding on algae and bacteria films on rocks and glass, micro organisms and detritus as well as left over food fed to other fish and inverts.
