The Lyretail Hogfish has a reddish-orange face and white posterior with red highlights. It has a beautiful long tail, hence its name.
The Lyretail Hogfish found in the Indo-Pacific, Red Sea, to Srilanka. This hardy fish is probably one of the best Hogfish to keep in a home aquarium. It is one of the last aggressive but is best when kept with moderately aggressive tank-mates like Tang Fish and Angelfish. Adult Lyretail Hogfish are often seen blowing jets of water at the substrate to uncover worms, snails and other small crustaceans hidden in the sand.
The diet varies with maturity. As a juvenile, the Lyretail Hogfish will eat parasites off its tank mates. With maturity, however, it likes meaty foods such as snails, worms, mussels, and small fish. It may even blow water over the sand to uncover food.
