Blue Legs Hermit Crab, Calcinus Elegans

The electric blue leg hermit crab is one of the most desirable hermit crabs in the reef due to its beautiful bright colors and reef safe status. Altohugh reef safe it's recommended that if you keep any crabs or urchin or other mobile inverts that small corals are fixed down to avoid them being moved.

Blue legs feed on a variety of algae including hair algae, meaty foods and will beneficially consume cyanobacteria also. If no algae is present their diet can be substituted with algae pellets or seaweed sheets.

Hermit crabs live do not grow their own shell, instead they live in unwanted or abandoned snail shells. Spare shells should be provided for hermit crabs as they grow, this helps to avoid fighting over suitable shells within your crab population.
